This particular picure has a story behind it. Many of you know that my husband Steve has been through a lot during his deployments. Ask him and he'll tell you how he got each of his 4 purple hearts. This picture shows one such story. He has the minute details of the story but on Christmas day 2005, his Iraqi interpreter turned on him and demanded his computer full of confidential info at gunpoint. Steve, thinking quickly agrees so that the guy turns his back on Steve. Steve unholsters his weapon and hearing this, the guy turns and shoots Steve in the chest causing Steve to fall to the ground where he returns fire and delivers the kill shot. Well when the bullet hit him in the chest it hit his badge on his bullet proof vest. This picture shows the side view. His guardian angel was on his shoulder that day... the badge is barely bigger than a silver dollar. The curvature was the dent made by the bullet.
Till the next picture! - Smooches

Very Touching
I had to post this when I saw it. Honestly brought me to tears for obvious reasons. Jennie you know it pains me to say who made the commercial but it is a wonderful reminder during the holiday season of the men and women fighting for our freedom.

Travels to Ohio!
So many of you know I recently travelled to Ohio for a Neursurgeon consult (which of course left me with more pain and less answers.) But I did get a few interesting pictures.
The first one disserves a paragraph all to it's own. I've attached a link so you can hear the song that named after it. I got the best picture that I could from the road. The statur is called Big Buttter Jesus because over time the white paint has turned yellowish. Also in front of Him there is a long shallow pool so he allso has the nicknames: drowning Jesus and Touchdown Jesus, "I can't believe it's not Jesus."
So If I remember correctly that was south of Cincinnati. It was pretty right between the two boards there are these small rolling hills and when you get up over the last one, Cincinnati comes into view. It was actually ver pretty!
Well when we finally got to Wright-Patterson AFB we checked into the Fisher house and got settled in. The ladies that work there are so super sweet! I couldn"t have asked for more caring accomodating people. Especially after the mix up we had when they scheduled me with the wrong person who would be in until the next day. Geez. It at least gave us time to get to know the area and check out the mall. I got this huge porterhouse steak at Logan's but had to leave early cuz of my head. Sigh.... Well I finally got to see my real doctor and I'm back at square run! Sigh again. Anyway we snuck in some pretty pictures on post.... hehe I'll be posting another random pic here soon!
Love always!!

Randomness
I've become quite the little shutter-bug since Steve bought me my new camera and take pictures of everything. So I decided from time to time that I would post some random pictures. This week is a familiar sight around my house and anyone who knows Steve and I will agree with this. Yes this is legal BTW for anyone worried...

Little Buddies
I know I've posted many times how close Steve and Oreo are. But since we've been back from Ohio he's even been snugling up to me! Guess he wasn't a fan of that much alone time. So I thought I'd snap a few in pictures. Who knows how long this sweetness will last! Haha
Ever wonder if cats really love us or if they just like a warm roof over their heads? After all the sweetness I thought I'd hurry and capture those moments while they last!
Oreo Watching Steve Doing his coin collecting.
Oreo taking a brief nap... again.. shocking!

So close... yet..
I'm beginning to sound like a broken record and by no means does it put a smile on my face. No sooner had I informed my family and finalized preparations AGAIN for my surgery did I get the dreaded call. It was at the end of a long hard day at the ER and often I'm in areas where I don't get reception. I was walking to my car around 1900 ( 7 pm for you civilians ) when all the sudden I got notification of a voicemail. Honestly my stomach dropped into my toes... my presurgery was the next day and somehow I just knew that it was that call. All it said was to call... nothing more and that the office would be closing at 1700 and opening at 0730 the next day. Nice.
So I call the next morning... after having no sleep mind you even with sleep meds. And it's my worst fear. Some Doc whom I've never met has decided that need ANOTHER opinion, but it was not certain as to when that would happen. Instead of wallowing (that comes later) I throwing on a uniform and run down to the hospital determined to yell. I made a pit stop with my doc and change plans and go to the ER to talk to our OIC ( Officer in Charge; head Doc) and also our department director who was there as well to explain the wall I was hitting. I refused to be on meds the rest of my but yet it felt like the Army knew of only one way to treat; symptomatically. Basically I needed an advocate with power. So he took my info and sent me home and said it would be handled that day. No more that a few hours later did I get a call informing me of an appointment at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio with Neurosurgery there.
It just sucks it had to go to those lengths. On the day I was told my surgery was canceled I was told I could write an appeal letter to the disapproving authority but I knew it would get denied. This person has know idea about my quality of life, about my daily headaches, the severe limit in activities or the strain on my family. If anyone should decide it should be left to my physician. But that takes logic and well lets face it... Army. All but our OIC. I am very thankful for that man. He helped me so that Steve can go with me to my Appointment too. Especially since I have to drive. Yikes! Doc wants to give me something to help my neck muscles relax in the car and driving would be a bad idea.
Well I'm done rambling. Just thought I'd give a quick update!

More cute stuff!
My Stick Family from WiddlyTinks.com
Thought this was cute. I made sure to put Oreo next to Steve.. many of you are familiar with his and my shall I say... disagreements? So on this side of the world I got promoted and my surgery finally got rescheduled. Steve's orders are on hold for my 8-10 weeks of recovery so that he can take care of me. Bout time is all I can say and I am ready to get this over and done with. I just hate that it came so close to Ivy's birthday. It kills me when I can't go home for that but I'm be on con leave for 30 days or more so I will try to fly home for Halloween or just a visit if my Dr. lets me. Well it's this old lady's bed time! Smooches!

The cutest thing ever!
So Steve and I were bored and searching around the internet and came across the cutest thing!!We originally were looking for just the song after having watched Step-Brothers (still my most highly recommended favorite!). We found the Sarah Brightman version which is beautiful but this one is completely adorable.

Keeping Busy!
So update on life... looks like Steve and I have to wait 3 more months before we get to go to AZ. There is some logistical-type stuff that Steve needs before we get there and it can take up to 3 months to get it done. I was going to wait to change my name officially to Clark (my new last name) till we got to AZ so as to not confuse our PCS paperwork but looks like I will go ahead and take care of it now. So it'll be Mrs. Clark soon.
Well work is keeping me busy. I am learning more everyday and doing a lot of cool stuff. This picture is a wound that I was taking care of for a lady. She wanted me to take a picture and send it to her because her husband was overseas... It started as a pretty gnarly wound but it's on the mend.
So other than that nothing much has been going on. I just work, eat and sleep! I feel old.. haha. Catch ya later!

Me is now a.... We!
It's happened! Yes you guessed it. Steve and I tied the knot! I know.. finally.. It was very special. We had to push up the date as many of you know due to Steve's PCS (permanent change of station) orders. We had the ceremony performed by a local minister. A lot of our friends wanted to attend but Steve and I both agreed that we wanted it to be just us. It was a special moment we that we wanted to share between just the two of us. We'll have our bigger wedding/celebration once we get to Arizona and get settled. Thank you Jennie and John and the rest of the family for the gift card! We're thinking (or at least I am) MICROWAVE!!!!

Oh Dear...
So as some of you may or may not know.. Today was the day Steve and I had set to get Married. Well... As many of you know one must get a license before getting married. That wasn't the easiest of tasks this week... between work and all my medical we couldn't get down during their business hours. Poor Steve doesn't even have a shirt! I had the dress and all... So we are waiting to hear what dates he is given at his briefing and we'll make a decision then. Sorry all!

There's something Wrong With Us
And now for another installment in the things you may not know... I couldn't think of anything better coming up on what was supposed to be my original ETS (day I was getting out) date than quoting Stripes, one of my favs. If you haven't seen it... You must. Another recommendation. Bill Murray at his best I think. Laughs all around.
"We're all very different people. We're not Watusi. We're not Spartans. We're Americans, with a capital 'A', huh? You know what that means? Do ya? That means that our forefathers were kicked out of every decent country in the world. We are the wretched refuse. We're the underdog. We're mutts! Here's proof: his nose is cold! But there's no animal that's more faithful, that's more loyal, more loveable than the mutt. Who saw "Old Yeller?" Who cried when Old Yeller got shot at the end? Nobody cried when Old Yeller got shot? I'm sure. I cried my eyes out. So we're all dogfaces, we're all very, very different, but there is one thing that we all have in common: we were all stupid enough to enlist in the Army. We're mutants. There's something wrong with us, something very, very wrong with us. Something seriously wrong with us - we're soldiers. But we're American soldiers! We've been kicking ass for 200 years!"
A quote from a most awesome movie that I had to post... If you don't know what this is from then I am sad for ya! Kidding it's from Stripes; totally recommend it.

Could it be... Mrs. Me?
So I never thought it would be this fast. Now those close to me know all about Steve getting moved to AZ. Well sooner than we ever thought... he got his orders. His report date is 10 August. Which means if we want to go together we get to push up the wedding like super super super early... We've picked a date of July 10th! Yay!! It's so fast but we are so happy. We are still having a wedding celebration in AZ for the family out there! We will still do the silly lovey-dovey pictures out there and try and get a few here (you know me with a camera). Smooches all!!
Zombie killing... Lady-like?
So I have a new interest to add to my tradition! On my recent trip to Arizona I found a interesting book that I had to read.
Who could resist that cover? I had to find out more! So far it is a lot like the other version if you've read it, except imagine zombies ruining the fun. Nice. Instead of girls practicing their curtsies, it's the unique skills of dismembering a zombie! Truly a remarkable novel. Of mention, if you haven't read this book:
On one last note if you ever find yourself and your family in the position where zombies are knocking at the door and there are precious few moments to spare? Enter the Zombie Survival kit! Combined with the Survival guide, you and your loved ones are sure to survive to undead horde!

Welcome to the Crazy Bunch!
So I'm back from my AZ va-kay and missing the family already. I am glad to be home though with my honey. For those of you who don't already know, Steve and I are engaged!Yay! I saw this commercial on TV and thought to myself... hmm... I'm marrying this loony? Why yes he will fit in perfectly with the rest of us! If you've heard the stories of Steve and his video game... issues.. this will make sense. Thought it was pretty funny. The Second video cracks me up too! These are alot like the video that I posted earlier to describe Steve's unique characteristics... he's gotten better though. That game was returned. :)

New Traditions
I've decided that I will routinely (like monthly or weekly whatever I have time for) talk about stuff people may or may not know about me!
This weeks installment was actually unknown to me until yesterday. I love the movie "The Legend of Bagger Vance." Now it's surprising because I hate Golf. I suck at put-put and the regular game. That story about the club slipping out of someone's hand mid-swing? That was me. Well anyway there is this one part in the movie that makes me tear up everytime.
The movie has Golf in in but uses it as a way for a man who has been to war to truly find his way home and to find himself. Some people may find it boring but I love and recommend it to anyone with a free second. The music is beautiful and I love the time period it was set in.
So there ya go. Bet ya didn't know I loved that movie! More to come!

Happy Memorial Day!
So if you haven't read Jennie's Blog ( Click Here ), you should. She gave a wonderful and often forgotten view of Memorial Day. She even went back through the years and named some of our family members who have served and are serving. I could get on my soap box about what should be remembered on this day but instead I will continue to properly honor those who have served by continuing to fight for those beliefs that they gave their lives for.
So Steve and I decided to go to the Veterans Cemetery to pay our respects then we went to the Museum here at Ft. Campbell. It was fun to learn the history of Ft. Campbell and the 101st Airborne Division. We had a great time looking at the exhibits and finally going out to look at the planes and helicopters. I had a fun taking pictures including the one up top of the flag in front of the Division headquarters.
Steve's favorite was the "warthog."
My favorite was the UH-1 Cobra. In my picture I'm trying to Grrr like the helicopter but I look kinda scrunchie faced. Steve wanted a picture too... Next to the gun turret it says "Warning gun will fire if rotated by hand." Hehe
Steve's absolutest most favorite at the exhibit was what I termed the Heliplane or the Planicopter. It was called Cheyenne something or other and was the fastest heliopter because of it's plane/helicopter design.
And some other random pics...
I Hope everyone enjoyed Memorial Day and remembered those it truly belonged to.

Finally Updating
Ok, so I finally got a few minutes that I wasn't falling asleep as soon as my tush hit the couch so I thought I'd update. Well... lots of goings on. For those who didn't already read or know, I recently transferred to the Emergency Room here at Fort Campbell from working at the WTU. Let me tell you it is crazy hectic and there is always something knew. I am learning new stuff everyday on top of the stuff Combat Medics (me) are already required to know. I can't tell you how many times a day I draw blood and start IV's in from infants to the elderly.
Most days tend to blend into another just because of the speed and "hectic-ness" of it all. One day that didn't was and probably never will was my first day. Ahh... the first day... So I was practicing an IV on one of our NCO's and we've backtracked the incident and still to this day are not entirely sure of what happened...Anyway I was withdrawing the needle and holding pressure when BAM! the blood literally shot out like in the movies and sprayed the front our my uniform and badge. I quickly stopped it and got a new top but have not lived down the stigma and nickname " Doc Vampire" to this day.
More to Come!

Out with the Old (But Loved)...
Today we say goodbye to a very dear friend, my 1999 VW Jetta. This dear car has seen me through many trips and adventures and will always be remembered as a reliable friend that saw me through hard times. While other cars we breaking down constantly, my Jetta stood by my side. So, I pay tribute to VW and bought another Jetta! I know, I know, before you sneer and jeer that I should be buying American, I'm sorry. I simply could not find an American product that compared in reliability history or gas mileage (30 MPG). Besides, the dealer and all the service personnel are American workers and my purchase helps them keep a job. :) Anywho, I shall my beloved 1999 but am excited to break in the 2009! Definitely more pictures to come soon!!

Happy Earth Day!
I tried to think of ways to contribute today and looked at ways I already do. Small things like reusable bags at the grocery store, rechargeable batteries and those power saving light bulbs all help. Turn off those lights! Don't stand in front of the fridge with the door open idly thinking of a good snack. Car pool! All good and helpful advice. I mean these are all small things that I do and I know granted there are more, but I'll start small. I've got 5 bags of cans to take to the recycle place! Steve got out of it by having a small car.
When I was younger, I loved to read stories and poems by Shel Silverstein and I thought The Giving Tree fit perfectly for today. It always made me sad when I was a kid. So I loved my environment even then! Plus I added in some pics that I took with my new camera!

Once there was a giving tree who loved a little boy.
And everyday the boy would come to play
Swinging from the branches, sleeping in the shade
Laughing all the summer’s hours away.
And so they love,
Oh, the tree was happy.
Oh, the tree was glad.
But soon the boy grew older and one day he came and said,
"Can you give me some money, tree, to buy something I’ve found?"
"I have no money," said the tree, "Just apples, twigs and leaves."
"But you can take my apples, boy, and sell them in the town."
And so he did and
Oh, the tree was happy.
Oh, the tree was glad.
But soon again the boy came back and he said to the tree,
"I’m now a man and I must have a house that’s all my home."
"I can’t give you a house" he said, "The forest is my house."
"But you may cut my branches off and build yourself a home"
And so he did.
Oh, the tree was happy.
Oh, the tree was glad.
And time went by and the boy came back with sadness in his eyes.
"My life has turned so cold," he says, "and I need sunny days."
"I’ve nothing but my trunk," he says, "But you can cut it down
And build yourself a boat and sail away."
And so he did and
Oh, the tree was happy.
Oh, the tree was glad.
And after years the boy came back, both of them were old.
"I really cannot help you if you ask for another gift."
"I’m nothing but an old stump now. I’m sorry but I’ve nothing more to give"
"I do not need very much now, just a quiet place to rest,"
The boy, he whispered, with a weary smile.
"Well", said the tree, "An old stump is still good for that."
"Come, boy", he said, "Sit down, sit down and rest a while."
And so he did and
Oh, the trees was happy.

Remember me?
My dear friend memory:
I realized today that you left but I can't remember when. You left me without saying goodbye. And in my time of need. So you have forced me to announce how much you suck. You have failed me much in the past and left me lost and and confused after a few of Christy's famous drinks. You led me a stray and even caused me to fail tests. Many a time I have sat here scratching my head with nothing but a dial tone to fill my thoughts. Therefore I have no choice but to replace you. I plan to buy a small child to remember things for me. Memory, we had our good times but it is time we see other people.
Love Always,
Kim

Is it not Spring?
Some people may think me odd (Haha try not to choke laughing), but I actually love to run (hence the super cool shoes). Yes my face is red, I'm all sweaty, stinky and out of breath when I'm done but it's actually fun. So when the trees started to bloom the little white purple and white flowers and the yellow flowers showed up everywhere I was super excited ( even though the thunderstorms and tornadoes come with it). After having to spend all winter inside I was starting to understand cabin fever! I guess someone forgot to tell mother nature. It has been raining nonstop and then cold as heck. Grr... And I soooo wanted a reason to get those shoes. This is my brand of crack.

This Weeks Happenings
What a crazy week. Lately around here, according to some local weather guy, it's been like tornado alley. We keep getting these crazy lines of storms. Last night one blew through that woke me up but I thought it was over. Then, while I was at work I found out another one was coming and I received an email from my commander that there was some storms coming that were producing rotations. I knew my clinics evacuation policy and how to get everyone to safety so I wasn't too concerned. Then the post sirens off. If you've ever heard the air raid sirens they just sound creepy and only mean a small amount of things. Then came the email from the commander that the trailers were evacuated. The hospital was safe (bomb shelter-like) and were were advised to stay away from the windows. Dang... I kinda wanted to look out the window but got sassed. But that ended up being it. Now if I was home I would have been a ball of nerves ( I don't like Tornados being that I've never officially been in one) and Steve the level headed one. I think I did well. This is like the 4th time this is happened. But at least now I'm ready! BTW I tried to get Steve to get a picture for me but since there actually was a tornado in his area he was seeking shelter in the bathroom so these are from a news page from our area. Still crazy.
